GAVRT Students Observe Jupiter for 24 Hours
November 5, 2009

GAVRT students, in partnership with NASA's Deep Space Network, will participate in 24-hours of Jupiter Observation on November 22-23, 2009. During the 24-hour period, radio telescopes will be focused on the largest planet in our Solar System. Jupiter's strong radio emissions come from the atmosphere and from electrons trapped in the planet's vast magnetosphere. The 24-hour observations window will be a rare opportunity to study how Jupiter's emissions change over short time spans. Students in the Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT) program will track the planet via internet link using an antenna in the California desert.
