Site Preparation and Excavation
Excavation for the DSS-55 pedestal began on Thursday August 2, 2001. The first couple of meters of top soil will be removed mechanically, then 3 controlled explosive blasts will be used to break up the hard granite at the construction site. When finished, the excavation will be approximately 10 meters deep.
