Site Preparation and Excavation
The photo of the DSS-55 construction site is taken from the construction trailers looking to the southwest. The excavation for the pedestal is in the center of the photo, and the ramp excavation is leading off to the left side. Also visible is the leveling of the construction work platform around the excavation. To date all excavation has been done mechanically to a depth of 2-3 meters. Next week (August 20, 2001) the blasting portion of the excavation is expected to begin.
