Steel Fabrication
Steel fabrication activities are now in full swing at the Schwartz-Hautmont Construcciones Metalicas plant in Tarragona, Spain. The major beams of the alidade portion of the antenna are being fabricated from welded plates of steel. The alidade is the portion of the structure that rotates around the azimuth axis, and supports the tipping reflector. Once all of the alidade beams have been fabricated, the alidade structure will be trial assembled in the factory to ensure proper fit and alignment. The beams will then be painted and shipped to the site for final erection.
